Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Option Returns to Kern County
Kern County Animal Control is pleased to announce the return of the Angel Dogs Foundation mobile spay/neuter vehicle to Kern County.
Angel Dogs Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to solving the companion animal overpopulation problem, made a stop in Kern County with their mobile spay/neuter vehicle on May 6th. During this stop, a total of 19 animals were altered (17 dogs and 2 cats.)
Founder Lisa Tipton describes her organization’s mission, “Our mission is to provide high quality spay and neuter services to the low income public. We'd like to make spay and neuter more affordable and convenient for every pet owner.”
The mobile spay/neuter unit will again be parked in front of Kern County Animal Control at 201 S Mt. Vernon Avenue in Bakersfield on Wednesday, May 13th and, Wednesday, May 20th. Slots are still available for both days, but appointments are required. All inclusive spay/neuter costs are: $110 per dog and $90 per cat. This cost is regardless of size and gender of the animal. These fees also include a free Avid microchip and a rabies vaccination. Qualifying dog owners will also be required to purchase a $15, one year County license at the same time. Other yearly vaccinations are available for dogs and cats for an additional $10. Each pet is given a post-surgery pain injection to keep them comfortable.
To off-set the fees for this event, the Kern Humane Society will again be offering a $20 voucher to low-income residents. Interested individuals should contact Kern Humane Society at 661-325-2589 for instructions on redeeming the vouchers. Vouchers can be used for both cats and dogs.
