Why Does Senator Florez Want To Kill Our Dogs and Cats?

EmailPrint

Senate Bill 250, the latest brain child of Senator Dean Florez, is a new effort to force all dogs and cats to be surgically sterilized.

Senator Florez however, swears his bill is not mandatory spay and neuter. All a pet owner has to do is pay a fee on their natural pet, says Florez. They call it a license. All dogs and cats already have to be licensed. The difference is, existing laws requires cities to charge double for unaltered dogs. SB 250 says is if you don’t pay this double fee, you have to have your dog surgically sterilized.

For the past few years, animal rights (AR's) extremists, including HSUS have been running a national campaign to require mandatory spay and neuter (MSN) of all dogs and cats. They say their goal is to reduce a pet overpopulation.

Pet overpopulation is a myth. It doesn't exist. It was made up by AR's to give them the excuse to eliminate dogs and cats in our lives. But, don't take my word for it, do a little research and check out PETA, HSUS and goals of some of the radical AR's.

Here’s the real kicker. Senator Florez seems to have joined the ranks of the PETA, HSUS and animal rights extremists. [1][1]Florez’s SB 250 makes it illegal to own a natural dog unless you pay this intact fee. He is raising the bar by criminalizing thousands of pet owners who own, or feed intact dogs.

The devious part of SB 250, is Florez sets up a number of traps to deny you a license, or revoke a license. If your license is denied or revoked, your dog is confiscated, sterilized and you are charged the cost. If you don’t pay up, your dog is considered abandoned, stays in the shelter and probably ends up being killed.

What Florez and the proponents of the bill disregard is the ugly results of mandatory spay and neuter. [2][2]Every city that has tried MSN , ends up with more dogs and cats being killed. This is because, when faced with huge fines and fees many pet owners remand their pets back to the animal shelter, or disavow ownership of the animal. As more pets end up back in our shelters, costs escalate, space becomes tighter and more animals are killed.

But, it doesn’t stop there. [3][3]As pet owners feel threatened by their own government, they refuse to license their animals and drop off the grid. Licensing plummets. With licensing revenue down, cities raise fees, thus exacerbating the problem all over again. Faced with mandatory spay and neuter pet owners are afraid to take their pets to a vet. Veterinary services fall off, animals are more prone to disease, and the incidence of rabies increases.

SB 250 is a bad idea. State mandated costs will be in the millions. These costs will have to be picked up by taxpayers, at a time when California is faced with an unprecedented $40 billion deficit, the worst recession in recent history, thousands out of work, and homes being foreclosed.

SB 250 criminalizes natural dog and cat owners. There are over 9 million dog and cat owners in California. What is the justification for turning many of these law abiding citizens into potential criminals? Is this only to satisfy animal rights extremists who want to do away with our pets? We treat our pets as family. Our pets have been with us as long as we have been on this earth. Now some misguided lawmaker wants to make it a criminal offense to own a natural dog or cat? What kind of insanity is this?

One of the reasons Senator Florez may be advancing such a draconian bill is he has set his sights on being California's next Lieutenant Governor. It is well known PETA, HSUS and animal rights groups are well funded.

Could it be our Senator is looking for support from the AR crowd?
